A person who the police think shot and killed a football coach at a Florida high school has been taken custody by the Miamiade Police Department, as local news.

Keon Bernard Smith, who coached quarterbacks at Norland High School, got shot around June 3 at about1 a.m. near the apartment building where his girlfriend, Brittney Grant, stays. The police mentioned that Lance Rolle, 39 years old, used to date Grant and they suspect he shot Smith before running away, as per CBS News Miami and Local10.com.

In line with information from Local10, Rolle turned up at the apartment complex without an invite and tapped on the bedroom window. When Rolle talked with Grant, he said that Smith was in bed. According to Local10:

“The document says then Rolle broke into through the window and showed a gun to Smith and instructed him and Grant to leave the apartment.”

Smith had been married to India Smith for 24 years. After the arrest happened, she talked with WSVN News expressing her relief about the arrest.

“Keon was great. He was my husband. He was my friend. He was our kids’ dad,” she mentioned. “It’s been quite tough for me and my family.”

India Smith added that they have eight kids and two grandkids as reported by NBC Miami.

“He was nice, he was nice,” India Smith said. “He can’t coach his youngest son who wants to play football.”

At Norland, Smith played a role in leading a team that got a record of 14-1 last season and secured No. 16 in the USA TODAY Super 25 national rankings.
