CUMBERLAND, MD — Fort Hill High School has officially released its 2025 varsity football schedule, sparking excitement across Maryland as the powerhouse team looks to make history by capturing a fifth consecutive Class 1A state championship.

The Sentinels, who have already tied their previous four-peat from 2013 to 2016, are aiming to become the first public school football program in Maryland history to win five straight state titles. After a dramatic 2024 season that included a self-reported eligibility issue resulting in five forfeited games, Fort Hill rallied to win its 11th overall state championship.

Key Highlights of Fort Hill’s 2025 Football Season

Fort Hill will host five home games at the iconic Greenway Avenue Stadium in Cumberland. The season kicks off on September 6 with a highly anticipated rematch against Northern-Garrett, their opponent in last year’s 1A state title game.

In Week 2 (September 12), the Sentinels face off against Dunbar High School, a perennial Baltimore powerhouse. The two schools have combined for 22 state championships since 1993, and their regular season matchup in 2024 drew considerable attention, with Dunbar winning 26-13 at Morgan State University.

Challenging Road Matchups Add to Competitive Edge

Fort Hill’s 2025 schedule includes notable out-of-state matchups that will test the Sentinels’ mettle:

• September 26: A road trip to Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, a team that reached the PA Class 5 state quarterfinals in 2024. Although Fort Hill won their last meeting, the result was later forfeited due to eligibility violations.

• October 3: The Sentinels will travel to Bridgeport, West Virginia, to face the defending West Virginia Class AAA state champions, a team that went undefeated (14-0) last season and boasts 11 state titles.
