Jefferson, Jackson County Renew Crosstown Rivalry Friday Night

JEFFERSON, Ga. — Two unbeaten teams from the same city will collide Friday night when the Jefferson Dragons host the Jackson County Panthers in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School.

Both squads opened their seasons with wins, but in very different fashion. Jefferson (1-0), ranked No. 113 nationally and No. 21 in Georgia, leaned on its defense in a 19-0 shutout victory. The Dragons held their opponent scoreless after an early offensive burst and will look to keep that momentum going against a high-powered Panthers offense.

Jackson County (1-0), ranked No. 1,412 nationally, showcased plenty of firepower in its opener with a 36-13 victory. The Panthers racked up 421 total yards, led by quarterback RJ Knapp III, who passed for 156 yards, and running back Daylan Maxwell, who contributed 147 rushing yards and 178 total yards of offense.

The matchup also features two standout defensive leaders. Jackson County’s Tyler Mobbs tallied 13 tackles in Week 1, while Jefferson’s Max Brown recorded 16, well above the national average.

Friday night’s game not only gives both teams a chance to stay unbeaten but also adds another chapter to the local rivalry between two programs that know each other well. Fans in Jefferson can expect a hard-fought battle under the lights.
